Futaleufú

The Futaleufú National Reserve has an area of 12.000 and more hectares, was created in 1998, and is located along the border with Argentina, south of the Futaleufú river – big river in Mapudungun. The main mountain landmark is the Cerro Cónico. The reserve was created to protect the Ciprés de la Cordillera (Mountain Cypress) and the Huemul (Andean Dear), both in danger of extinction. The surroundings are of great beauty, the big and fast flowing, turquese water river descends among rugged and rocky mountains and snowed peaks. The Futaleufú National Reserve is part of the Biosphere Reserve of the Temperate Rainforest of the Southern Andes
