Parque Nacional

Hornopiren

The Hornopirén National Park – snow oven in Mapudungun - is part of the Biosphere Reserve of the Temperate Rainforest of the Southern Andes. Almost half of the park area is covered by native forest of thousand years old Alerce Trees, Ulmos, Coigues, Tepas and Luma Trees. The rest is rocky and rugged landscape, snow topped mountains, lakes, and glaciers. Even though the Hornopirén Volcano is not within the park, it is still an important landmark of the region. The entrance to the park is at Chiquihua Alto area. It is also possible to visit Cabrera Lake. The park has very few visitors.
