Río Simpson

The Río Simpson National Reserve has two areas for visits, the Simpson river area 37km from Coyhaique on the road to Puerto Aysén and the Río Claro area 16 km from Coyhaique on the road to Clarao river. The reserve combines the evergreen forest in the Simspson area and the nothofagus deciduous forest in the Claro area. The total of the protected area is 40.452 hectares, the topography is rough and peaks are 1.600 mts high or more, rivers and streams flow down narrow and deep valleys and canyons. At the Simpson area there is an information center and a path along the river and at the Claro area it is possible to observe huemules (Andean deers) but a 4x4 car is recommended to get to the entrance.
